Word of warning: Poverty is a big problem in Brazil and it breeds crime, particularly in the big cities.

We were lucky and had no problems in 6 weeks.

We didn't walk around with cameras or wander city streets and beaches late at night if we could avoid it.

In the rural areas it's less of a problem though but all the same avoid flashing your tourist wares around.
